Theme: “Tell the Coming Generation: God is Always Faithful”

In accordance with its bylaws, the Northeast Region (NER) of NBPC conducted its 2023 Annual Meeting (hybrid) at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania using the theme “Tell the Coming Generation: God is Always Faithful” taken from Psalm 89:2. Gathering in the vibrant décor of lime green, with delicious food, and awesome fellowship, guests from New Jersey, New York City, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh were introduced and welcomed. Greetings and prayers were offered by NBPC National President, the Rev. Charles Heyward, Presbyterian Mission Agency’s mission co-worker, the Rev. Paula V. Cooper (Zambia, Africa), the Rev. Forrest Claassen, Synod of the Trinity Executive, and the Rev. Dr. Mary Newbern-Williams, Transitional Presbyter the Presbytery of New York City.

Our newest adventure, the Open Mic Event, was an inspiring and motivating endeavor, with the Rev. Anna Grant-Borden serving as the mistress of ceremonies. Individuals, musicians, dance groups, and children/youth choirs boldly shared their God-given talents, rousing us all with additional hope in a faithful God.

Saturday morning, Certified Spiritual Director, Mrs. Rasheeda Hastings led us in meditation, ushering us into the awesome presence of our loving God before the annual business meeting.
Three new officers were elected and installed: President, the Rev. Dr. Aaron Bass (Philadelphia), Treasurer, Elder Philip Allen (Pittsburgh), and Assistant Secretary, Elder Anita Perry (Pittsburgh).

In the closing ceremony, Celebration and Call to Action, The Rev. Eustacia Marshall, pastor New Rivers Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, brought the clarion call to inspire all to share their faith stories to the coming generation. Using the famous slogan “Keep the Faith” as the sermon title, attendees were charged to trust God in order to spring up and forward into fresh possibilities, new expressions of the church until every child can strive. Don’t throw away the past but embrace change as we tell of God’s faithfulness.

Outgoing president, the Rev. Maxine E. Jenkins made presentations to the Executive Committee (EC) and the Annual Planning Team; she also honored the Rev. Dr. Ethelyn Taylor in her retirement and the Rev. Dr. T. Janel Dixon in her 25 years of ministry. In return and to her utter surprise the EC offer gifts and thanks for Rev. Jenkins’ leadership and service to the Northeast Region.
